Parts of Ottawa’s Transportation Master Plan haven’t been updated since 2013. Current work includes the development of the TMP Capital Infrastructure Plan. The TMP Capital Infrastructure Plan will identify transit and road projects that are needed to accommodate future travel demand and that should be included within the City’s ultimate transportation networks.
Ottawa’s transportation needs have changed significantly since 2013: COVID and the technology that now allows work from home, climate change, and a new focus on intensification rather than urban sprawl all need to be reflected in decisions on transit.
From a Bike Ottawa perspective, the large increase to cycling modal share, despite the lack of safe cycling infrastructure in most of the city, is another big change. And the demonstrated impacts of safe infrastructure on cycling use along certain corridors highlights why we need to keep advocating for more. Connected to this (ha!) is the importance of modal connectivity, so that cycling and public transit can be sufficiently efficient to attract users away from cars.

We encourage you to read the full Transportation Master Plan and share your thoughts with your city councillors. You can find the contact information for your councillor here. Feel free to share your ideas with Bike Ottawa (info@bikeottawa.ca) as well.
