Suburban Cycling in Ottawa

In case you weren’t aware, as of this fall Bike Ottawa has a board member (Rob Attrell) from the suburbs who wants to apply lessons learned closer to downtown to make cycling better across the whole city. Suburban cycling tends to have a different set of issues and needs around it that the city can address compared to cycling in the core of Ottawa.

If you’d like to participate in advocacy or activities around cycling in your suburb of Ottawa, please reach out to rob.attrell@bikeottawa.ca. I’ll note that there are lots of very active sport cycling groups in many parts of suburban Ottawa, we are specifically referring here not just to cycling for exercise, but also to cycling for transportation. This could be commuting to work, getting kids to school, running errands, or visiting friends and family.

For Orleans, please reach out to rob.attrell@bikeottawa.ca to join a mailing list and get involved in planned activism or activities, or to getting support in planning your own.

For other suburbs, you should still reach out to rob.attrell@bikeottawa.ca, but we are looking for volunteers to lead efforts in their own communities. We’d love to see volunteers in the following communities (and this is not an exhaustive list, please suggest your community if it’s not covered):

  • Nepean
  • Barrhaven
  • Kanata
  • Sttittsville
  • Ottawa South
  • Ottawa West

Stay tuned, as we have lots planned for the coming year as far as suburban cycling in Ottawa goes.
